The Buzz: Readers asked who has best cuppa joe

A recent transplant to the Fox Cities asked me where to find a particular coffeehouse. He said it was called Stew’s and was by the water in Menasha. He’d heard about it from a guy from Milwaukee who knows everything about coffee and stops there when he comes up.

Stew’s? I had no clue. “Maybe Seth’s?” I asked.

“Oh, yes, it was Seth’s,” he said.

He meant Seth’s by the windmill in downtown Little Chute. It’s at 106 E. Main St. Seth’s Coffee & Bake Shop is owned by Seth Lenz, and in the last two weeks he celebrated his shop’s fourth anniversary and the birth of his second son. Plus, he’s expanding by adding a meeting room. He undoubtedly knows the value of a good shot of caffeine.

His shop uses Intelligentsia’s high-quality, direct-trade coffee beans grown with organic standards.

“Direct trade is a step above fair trade because the roaster purchases directly from the coffee farmer,” Lenz said. “They can ensure the quality because they inspect the farms.”

Beans are roasted to order for him, and the coffee shop meticulously brews by the cup.

My question to readers: Who makes the best cup of coffee? Does Seth rule the roast, or is there another place that deserves top honors? I’ll run a list of readers’ favorites Friday.
