Letter: Keep religion in the public square

EDITOR: I am writing in regard to the Wausau School District limiting Christmas songs - a decision the district reversed last week. It seems as if our schools can't say a prayer or say "Merry Christmas" without getting into trouble, and must call our Christmas tree just a tree. If some don't want to do or say the real thing, they should just leave the room or don't take part in it.

It's a shame that some big group can tell us what we can and cannot do. It's time for all people who love to hear our younger and older children sing these songs to take a stand.

That's like telling the people in Marshfield they had to fence in the statue of Jesus. I think it's time for all of us to stand up and fight for our rights. What happened to our freedom of speech and rights?

I say God bless America. I would like for more readers to write in and agree with me.

RoAnn Wienke,

Marshfield
