The leaves are changing, and the weather is cooling off somewhat. Corn stalks are adorning some homes, and their faithful friends, the pumpkins, are showing up everywhere. Homes even are starting to put up strings of orange lights. Oh yes, and Charlie Brown still thinks the Great Pumpkin will show its face. That can mean only one thing: It's Halloween time!
Local festivities will kick off next weekend. On Oct. 26, the Spencer Fire Department and EMS will hold its annual steak feed and fall dance. The steak feed starts at 4 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. For $12, you get that tantalizing steak, grilled to perfection. Along with the steak, you get the usual fixings. There is always a good turnout so you don't want to miss this.
After the feed is done, the tables are cleared away and the area is set up for the fall dance which starts at 8 p.m. A DJ will be on hand to provide the music. Don't forget to come in your best costume. You might have the best one there. A raffle will take place, and refreshments will be available. Come and enjoy the camaraderie with your friends.
You might have noticed the Spencer Kids Group is not preparing the haunted house this year. They have decided not to have one this year. Instead, they will be sponsoring a Halloween-themed carnival from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Halloween night at the Olde Hall. There will be fun games and events for all ages up to 18. Small children must be accompanied by an adult. Kids, don't forget to wear your favorite costume.
Hours for trick-or-treating will be from 4:30 p.m. until it gets dark, which will be approximately 7:30 p.m. Please be careful as you are driving around town. With these costumes on, the little ones have a hard time seeing around them. Plus, they are pretty excited about getting all that candy.
