Letters to the editor: Tea party earns well deserved slap for shutdown

1:34 PM, Oct. 15, 2013  |  Comments

Remember the scene from the General Patton movie where he slaps a coward across the face with his leather gloves. This independent voter who has written numerous editorials recommending Democrats for this glove slapping thinks Tea Party Republicans deserve an extra lashing from Patton with rolls of dimes placed in the fingers.

Where President Obama and Congressional Democrats cowered from their own debt commission's suggested entitlement reforms or ran from Wisconsin to Illinois avoiding state budget votes, Republicans in Washington are actually aiding our adversaries sabotaging our national security by intentionally shutting down our defenses.

While terrorists and adversaries invest massive time and treasure to harm us the Tea Party laid off 70 percent of the intelligence professionals trying to intercept them. The head-scratcher to those who understand our $100 trillion obligated debt bequeathed to our grandchildren is that it's almost entirely made up of runaway Medicare and fee-for-service healthcare costs.

Taxation without representation once rallied our nation. As underwhelming as its saving are, Obamacare covers everyone and saves billions in future health costs while the Tea Party offers political cowardice. It's like the soldiers running from the battlefield stealing the weapons of those left fighting alone.
