Green Bay Packers tackle Derek Sherrod practiced in pads on Thursday for the first time since he broke his right leg in December 2011.

Sherrod is on the physically unable to perform list and started practicing this week. Now that Sherrod has started practicing, the Packers have up to three weeks to decide whether to activate him, put him on injured reserve or release him.

The Packers had the same seven players sit out practice today as Wednesday: running back James Starks, outside linebacker Clay Matthews, outside linebacker Nick Perry, inside linebacker Brad Jones, tight end Ryan Taylor, receiver James Jones and outside linebacker Mike Neal.

Coach Mike McCarthy already has declared four of those players out for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns: Starks, Matthews, Perry and Taylor.
