A 30-year-old woman authorities say overdosed after placing two pain patches in her mouth made an initial appearance in Wood County Circuit Court.

Heather R. Flores of Wisconsin Rapids is charged with possession of narcotic drugs. During Flores' initial appearance Wednesday, Wood County Circuit Judge Todd Wolf set a $2,000 signature bond for Flores and ordered her to take all of her prescribed medications.

According to the criminal complaint, on Tuesday, emergency workers responded to Flores' home for a report of a possible drug overdose. They found Flores had two pain patches in her mouth and was going in and out of consciousness. When authorities asked her why she had the patches in her mouth, Flores told them she did it "to take the edge off the pain." She did not have a prescription for the medication.
