Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy was named to USA Football’s board of directors this week.

Indianapolis-based USA Football, the sport’s national governing body, leads the game’s development for youth, high school and other amateur football players, and administers the education-based player safety program Heads Up Football.

Murphy, in his sixth year as the Packers president, joins four other recently named board members: Miami Dolphins executive vice president Dawn Aponte, director of Louisiana youth football Leroy Hollins II, NorthShore University HealthSystems board-certified neurological surgeon Dr. Gail L. Rosseau, and Cincinnati St. Xavier High School football coach Steve Specht.

Other notable board members include Joe Browne of the National Football League, Jim Delany of the Big Ten Conference, Roger Goodell of the NFL and former NFL running back Merril Hoge.

“I’m honored to be named to USA Football’s board of directors,” Murphy said in a statement. “With an increased focus on player safety, this is a significant time for our young athletes and our game. I served on the NFL’s Youth Football Fund for more than a decade, and look forward to working with others on the board to continue this important work of making the sport better and safer at all levels.”
