As fall changes to winter and furnaces start to kick on in homes in the area, a silent threat - carbon monoxide poisoning - can emerge.

Portage County firefighters and members of Stevens Point Journal Media will give away 225 free carbon monoxide detectors from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 26 at a handful of fire houses across the area as part of Make a Difference Day.
