The Merrill Habitat for Humanity is pairing two fundraisers to help the organization in its mission of providing affordable housing for local residents.
The event will combine an Evening of Elegance and the Painted Chair Auction. But those who want to attend should purchase tickets soon; only 100 spaces are available.
The festivities will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 on Saturday evening, Nov. 9, at the newly renovated Merrill Historical Society. Tickets are on sale for $25 each at the Chamber of Commerce, River Valley Bank, and at Aunt Lou's Antiques and Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe.
An Evening of Elegance will treat guests to a few hours of mainstream jazz by the Matt Callope Ensemble, wine, beer, sodas and hors d'oeuvres. The Painted Chair Auction is just that; local artists have decorated wooden chairs which will be up for auction.
Residents may preview the chairs before the auction at many of Merrill's local businesses. Vote for your favorite chairs by putting quarters into a jar. The money collected will determine which chairs are the community's favorites. The coins collected will then be exchanged for Merrill dollars and returned to the top three artists. First place will receive $25, second place will be $15, and third place will be $10, and the remainder of the money will go to Habitat. All of the chairs will be up for auction on the evening of Nov. 9.
Merrill Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Its mission is to provide safe and quality housing for families that qualify.
