Letter: Government has grown much too large

2:20 PM, Oct. 19, 2013  |  Comments

It is now official that President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature are members of a selfish and corrupt cabal.

The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. They had 234 years to get it right and it is broke. Social Security was established in 1935. They had 74 years to get it right and it is going broke. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. They have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. They have had 44 years to get it right and they will soon be broke. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. They have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.

The War on Poverty started in 1964. They have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor," and it has not improved their condition. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than before.

They have had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure. They have failed in the government services they have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars, and they want Americans to trust that they can run our enormous health care and insurance industry? The whining do-gooders would have a government program for every conceivable aspect of our lives, ignoring the narrow purpose of the federal government.

Ask yourself: What do 16,000 employees of the Department of Energy do? 71,900 employees of the State Department? 5,000 employees of the Department of Education? Why do we have an armed guard in every Social Security office? Why does Homeland Security need 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition, enough to fight the Iraq War for 24 years?

The elected officials in the federal government have no clue what their proper limited role in our society is. There is no such thing as the collective wisdom of individual ignorance and the above proves the point. Beam me up, Scotty.
