Wausau postpones vote on landlord licensing ordinance (with video)

Issue will be revisited next month with full council

A city committee on Monday postponed a vote on creating a landlord licensing ordinance - a controversial issue that brought more than 20 residents to address the committee, all but one opposing the idea.

The proposed ordinance would require landlords to pay $30 annually per single-family home they own, $60 for every duplex and $30 for every building with three or more units, plus $15 per unit. In addition, the ordinance would require inspections of all rental properties in the city - about 6,800 - every three years.
