A 32-year-old Marshfield man will not return to prison for killing his girlfriend after reaching a plea deal prompted by the loss of key evidence in the case.

Eric Mayer, who served 585 days in prison after his June 2010 conviction in connection with the death of Cynthia Tyler, was found guilty Monday of felony murder - for the second time - and was sentenced to time served. Meyer admitted he slapped the 43-year-old Stratford woman after a prolonged argument March 13, 2009, in the couple's home.
