When Jan Ciardo opened her retail home decor store 27 years ago, her goal was to keep the business open until she was 62 years old.

"It comes faster than you think," Jan said. Jan will be 62 in February, and she and her husband, Joe Ciardo, 69, are beginning the process of closing the store, Ciardo's of Wausau. The last day the store will be open will be Dec. 23.

That will make for a bittersweet Christmas season - the holidays are special for the business, which basically becomes a Christmas decoration store - for Jan and Joe. The store is owned by Jan, but Joe, 69, has been a partner in its operation, and ...
