Semipro football: Rebels bump Destroyers from playoffs

The Sheboygan County Rebels scored on a special teams' play in the third quarter to take the lead and held on to beat the visiting Door County Destroyers, 24-21, Saturday in the first round of the Wisconsin State Football League semipro playoffs.

The Rebels broke a 14-14 tie when Steve Strong returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown. They then increased their lead to 24-14 in the fourth quarter on a field goal by Lee Rios.

The Destroyers closed the gap to 24-21 on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Nathan Smithson with little time remaining. They then tried an onside kick, but the Rebels ...
