Bowling column: Most awards to be left up to local associations

If you haven't already heard, the USBC is phasing out most awards starting next bowling season. Awards for 300 games, 800 series and 11 strikes in a row will be maintained, but will be once-in-a-lifetime awards from here on out.

Personally, I've never been much for the run of the mill USBC awards, and I've never thrown 11 strikes in a row (at least, not all in the same game). Nevertheless, I enjoyed getting a 700 patch most seasons at the year-end banquet - and I once even garnered a 150 pins over average series patch. No Dutch 200s, All Spare Games, or 7-10 or Big Four split conversions in my past.
