Manitowoc Lutheran 20, Oconto 7

MANITOWOC - Injuries left Oconto unable to keep up with Manitowoc Lutheran in the final game before playoffs.

Coach Dave Ruechel called it a "tough loss to a good team," though the Blue Devils kept battling back.

"It was a great effort by our team," he said. "The injuries caught up to us in this game. At one point we lost three starters. We had a number of younger players step in and they played well for the injured players."

Corey Herbert threw for 96 yards and Tyler Ferris had 19 carries for 88 yards for Oconto.

The Blue Devil defense played a solid game, said defensive coach John Moe, only giving up 230 yard of offense, though a couple of mental break downs led to Manitowoc scores.

Conner Moe led the team with 13 total tackles. Teague Camps played very well from his defensive end spot with 7 total tackles, he said.

"We were unable to get a lot of pressure up front and we did not make many tackles for loss," Moe said. " That has been a real strength the last couple of weeks.

Oconto travels to Cedar Grove-Belgium for its first round playoff game at 7 p.m. Friday. Reuchel is hoping most of the injured players will be able to return.

"Oconto will have their hands full this week stopping a very balanced offense," Moe said. " We will have to play assignment sound football in order to compete with the No. 1 seed Cedar Grove-Belgium."

WABENO - Monte Noffke rushed for 170 yards and a game-high four touchdowns on 18 carries for the Tigers.

Ryan Brauer scored on a 99-yard interception return for the Logrollers.

Gillett coach Rick Kamps said the team did a nice job of taking control of the line of scrimmage and the game after allowing the Rebels to go on a long opening drive.

"We had a huge 4th down stand deep in our territory in the later stages of the second quarter that seemed to turn the tide," he said.

The Rebels triple teamed receiver Dylan Roberts all night which, allowing Gillett to take advantage of some mismatches with Monte Noffke, who had a career night with 193 yards rushing on only 19 carries with 4 touchdowns.

Wet field conditions weren't the best for throwing, but Alex Zeitler found Noffke deep twice in the second quarter.

Both players continues improve each week during the season, said Kamps, who looks forward what they bring to the table next year.

Kody Pawlak played a great game all around, both from the OG spot and the LB spot, where he once again led the Tigers in tackles. Newcomer Leeland Kahler forced all three turnovers of the Rebels, recovering 2 fumbles and intercepting a pass in the end zone to thrawt a Rebel drive late in the first half.

"It was a great way for us to end the season with a game to build on our confidence for next season," Kamps said.
