Volleyball roundup: Oconto Falls ends regular season unbeaten, wins Bay Conference tournament

SHAWANO - Oconto Falls completed an undefeated league season with a 25-9, 25-17 triumph over Hortonville in the championship game of the Bay Conference tournament.

McKenna Larsen finished the tournament with 54 kills, 51 assists, 33 digs and 10 aces. Carly Lemke had 46 kills and nine blocks, and Liz Watzka had 46 assists. McKayla Johnson added 33 digs.

Luxemburg-Casco finished in third. Maggie Liebeck had 41 kills, 16 digs and six aces to power the Spartans. Alecia Cherney added 36 assists and 15 digs.

West De Pere took fourth, led by Heather Kocken's 36 kills, six aces and 34 digs. Mali Jereczek added 16 kills, 63 assists and 38 digs, and Bailey Denis had 15 kills and six aces.

Seymour finished fifth, followed by Denmark, Shawano, New London and Marinette.

Final overall Bay Conference standings

1, Oconto Falls; 2, Hortonville; 3, Luxemburg-Casco; T-4, Denmark; T-4, West De Pere; 6, Seymour; 7, Shawano; 8, New London; 9, Marinette.

Oconto second at conference tournament

OCONTO - Northeastern Wisconsin Lutheran topped Oconto in three sets on Saturday to win the Packerland Conference volleyball tournament and the overall conference championship.

The Blazers defeated the Blue Devils 25-21, 20-25, 15-5 in the championship game to clinch the titles. Keifer Zimmerman had 14 kills, eight aces and 21 digs on the day, and Abby Benz (14) and Ivy Van Beaver (10) added a combined 24 kills. Sadie Nier led the offense with 44 assists for the Blazers, who finished 8-2 in conference play.

For Oconto, Laken James finished with 40 kills, five blocks and 53 digs, and Carlee Behnke had 20 kills and five blocks. Emil Shallow had 52 assists.

Sturgeon Bay took third in the tournament, followed by Algoma, Southern Door, Gibraltar, Sevastopol and Kewaunee.

Final overall Packerland Conference standings

1, N.E.W. Lutheran; 2, Sturgeon Bay; T3, Oconto; T3, Algoma; 5, Southern Door; 6, Gibraltar; 7, Sevastopol; 8, Kewaunee.

Oct. 17 matches

BONDUEL - Jen Dowden tallied 18 kills, Deanna Zernicke made 15 digs and Courtney Schmidt had a team-high 21 assists in Bonduel's 12-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 win over Oconto.

Laken James had 19 kills and 23 digs to lead the Blue Devils (14-15).

GILLETT - Peshtigo went 2-0 with wins over Gillett and Marinette St. Thomas.

Carly Dietrich had 45 digs, Nicole Motkowski posted 20 assists and 25 digs and Taylor Sodini tallied seven aces and 14 assists for the Bulldogs.

For Gillett, Brianna Lemirande and Taylor Kohls each had 11 kills, while Jessica Anderson had 21 assists and eight aces.

CRIVITZ - Makenzie Sadowski had 24 kills and Abby Bieber had 14 kills and 23 assists as Coleman went 2-0 at the Crivitz triangular, topping Crivitz and Suring in straight sets.

Calley VanBellinger had 24 kills and 28 digs for Suring, which finished 1-1.

Vikki Neuman totaled 16 kills to lead Crivitz.

LENA - Shanna Nordell had 16 kills and Shelby Borchardt added 67 assists as Niagara swept Wausaukee and Lena at the Lena triangular.

Hailey Salter had 8 kills, six aces and 12 assists for Lena. Sara Manning and Melissa Bushmaker also added six spikes.

Oct. 15 matches

OCONTO FALLS - McKenna Larsen had three aces, 10 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs and Carly Lemke added 14 kills in Oconto Falls' (33-3, 8-0 Bay) 25-14, 25-13, 25-18 sweep over New London.

INSTITUTE - Laken James had 13 kills and 13 digs and Emily Shallow added 27 assists and five digs as Oconto beat Sevastopol 25-11, 25-8, 25-15.

Suring def. Wausaukee 25-16, 23-25, 25-23, 25-11: Calley VanBellinger had 15 kills and Breanna Tienor had 12 assists for Suring. Crysta Clark had 13 kills and 9 assists and Kaylor Delaet had 10 kills and 15 assists for Wausaukee.

Peshtigo def. Gillett 25-17, 31-29, 17-25, 25-11: Brianna Lemirande hd 14 kills and Jessica Anderson 25 assists for Gillett.

Crivitz def. Lena 25-16, 25-19, 25-22: Payton Kaldenberg had 7 kills and Jen Kempka had 25 assists for Crivitz. Sara Manning had four aces and three kills for Lena.
