When the Lincoln High School Ships football team was winning three state championships in 1984-86 their home games were played on real grass.

This year's Ships continue to play on a surface that can get muddy and torn up at the site - Ron Rubick Municipal Field - named after the former coach who was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association's Hall of Fame in 1999 and died 10 years later.
