Swimming: Clippers second in Shawano sprint meet

The Sturgeon Bay High School girls swim team was edged out by Shawano/Bonduel in a six-team sprint meet Thursday night at Shawano.

The host Hawks scored 312 points, with the Clippers notching 306.5. Clintonville was third with 212, followed by Seymour (201.5), Marinette (187) and New London (150).

No individual results for Sturgeon Bay swimmers were made available to the Advocate by press time.

? Meanwhile, Arica Smith led the Clippers with two runner-up finishes at last Saturday's Small School State Invitational in Shorewood.

Smith placed second in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races with times of 25.04 and 54.70 seconds, respectively. Grafton's Samantha Senczyszyn dominated both events, winning the 50 in 23.50 seconds and the 100 in 51.87.

The Clippers placed 10th in the 16-team meet, which typically attracts the state's best Division 2 teams.
