BASKETBALL

Beginning Monday

What: Plymouth middle school basketball

When: Practices begin Monday. Games run Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Nov. 5.

Where: Plymouth

Synopsis: Plymouth-area boys in grades seven and eight can participate in the extracurricular basketball program. Middle school extracurriculars are open to all area students whether they attend public or parochial school or are homeschooled, and are coordinated by Plymouth School District Community Education and Recreation.

What: Sheboygan Lutheran girls basketball camp

When: 6-7:15 p.m. Nov. 12-13

Where: Sheboygan Lutheran

Synopsis: The camp is for girls in grades 3-8, and will focus on skill and drills.

Cost: $15. (Checks payable to Sheboygan Lutheran High.)

December-February

What: Youth basketball program, grades 1-8

When: Games will run from first week in December through late February

Where: Sheboygan North and South high school field houses

Synopsis: The Sheboygan Area School District Community Recreation Department Youth Basketball program is running the program. The program reinforces skills and fundamentals. Volunteer coaches hold pre-season practices, and teams play a game per week. Register at the Recreation Department office, 607 S. Water St.

Cost: Resident fees for the program is grades 1-2 is $14; grades 3-5 is $20; grade 6 is $25; and grades 7-8 is $36. Participant in grades 1-6 get a team t-shirt. Participants in grades 7-8 get a reversible jersey.

Dec. 5-7, & Feb. 6-8

What: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton basketball tournaments

When: Tournament dates vary by grade level:

? Girls and boys, grades 5-6: Dec. 5-7

? Girls and boys, grades 7-8: Feb. 6-8

Where: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, Sheboygan

Synopsis: Six teams will play a partial round-robin in each girls and boys tournament. Teams are guaranteed three games. Format is subject to change depending on the number of teams entered. Players must attend the same school or be on a recreation roster that has played together during the current season. AAU teams and Select/All-Star teams are not eligible. (Decisions are the discretion of the Seton Athletic Committee.)

Deadline: Nov. 22 for grades 5-6 tournament; Jan. 24 for grades 7-8 tournament

Cost: $100 per team. ($90 per team if two or more teams from the same school enter.)

Synopsis: Program emphasizes fundamentals, drills and some games. Teams are formed primarily by school.

Deadline: Registrations were due Oct. 9. Late registrations will be added to teams only a space-available basis

Cost: $19 residents, $26 non-residents, $22 Sheboygan Area School District residents of Cleveland, Centerville or Mosel.

What: Basketball leagues, grades 3-6

Synopsis: Teams are formed primarily by school and area of town. Boys and girls leagues will be separate.

Deadline: Registrations were due Oct. 9. Late registrations will be added to team on a space-available basis.

Cost: Costs vary by grade level:

? Grades 3-5: $25 residents, $35 non-residents. (Sheboygan Area School District residents of Cleveland, Centerville or Mosel add $3 to resident fee)

? Grade 6: $30 residents, $42.50 non-residents. (Sheboygan Area School District residents of Cleveland, Centerville or Mosel add $3 to resident fee)

What: Coed basketball leagues, grades 1-2

When: Saturdays, Dec. 7-Feb. 22

Where: Practices and games at various locations: Cedar Grove elementary school, Oostburg middle school, Plymouth Horizon elementary school, Sheboygan YMCA and Sheboygan Falls YMCA

Synopsis: Leagues emphasize sportsmanship, skill development, teamwork and equal participation. Separate coed leagues for grades 1 and 2. Format includes lower rims, coaches on the court and player substitutions every four minutes. Practices will be the first three Saturdays of December; games will start Jan. 4. Games are played on Saturday mornings or early afternoons.

Dec. 7-Feb. 22

What: Winter youth basketball program, grades 3-6

When: Saturdays, Dec. 7-Feb. 22

Synopsis: Emphasis is on sportsmanship, skill development, teamwork, participation and doing one's best. There will be separate divisions for boys and girls in grades 3-6. It's an individual registration program, and teams are formed by community. Games are played on Saturday mornings or early afternoons. Practices are held once a week in local communities.

Deadline: Register by Thursday for guaranteed team placement. Registrations after that are placed on teams based on roster availability

Jan. 23-25 & Jan. 30-Feb. 1

What: Oostburg Christian School's 19th annual Jason Mentink Memorial Basketball Tournaments

When: Dates vary by gender:

? Girls: Jan. 23-25.

? Boys: Jan. 30-Feb. 1.

Where: Oostburg Christian School

Synopsis: The tourneys are open to boys and girls school district teams comprising players in grades 7 and 8. Eight teams are needed for pool play, which will then be followed by brackets.

Cost: The entry fee is $90.

What: Lakeland College basketball tournaments

When: Dates vary:

? Jan. 26: "Preseason" for boys and girls, grades 4-8

? March 16: "Mt. Dew Classics" for boys, grades 5-8

? April 6: "Muskie Shootouts" for boys, grades 4-8

? April 27: "Spring Classics" for boys and girls, grades 5-8

Where: Lakeland College

Synopsis: Teams must be school, district or small community teams. No All-Star or AAU teams can compete, unless they play up a grade and as long as officials feel the team won't harm the tournament. Teams that can't play Sunday mornings because of church can play in the afternoons. Teams are guaranteed three games.

Cost: $160 per team. If you put the same team in two or three tournaments, the entree fee is $150.

Nov. 3

What: Sheboygan Youth USBC Scholarship Tournaments

When: Nov. 3. Boys at 9 a.m., girls at 1:30 p.m.

Where: Anchor Lanes

Synopsis: Two boys divisions in the morning and two girls division in the afternoon, based on averages for sanctioned members. $1,700 sponsorship money added to a prize fund. Entry blank with format and rules can be downloaded at http://sheboyganbowling.webs.com/entryblanks.

What: High school boys futsal league

Synopsis: The futsal league is designed to improve foot skill development and teamwork while having fun. Games will be Saturday afternoons or evenings. The league will have a season-ending tournament on Feb. 15 and 22.

Synopsis: All divisions play 6-vs.-6 games, except U-13/14 games, which are 5-vs.-5. All teams are guaranteed 3 games. Divisions include:

? Co-ed: U-9/10, U-11/12, U-13/14

? Boys: U13/14

? Girls: U-9/10, U-11/12

Where: Sheboygan YMCA

Synopsis: The leagues are for players in U-8 to U-14 levels. Scheduling considerations are accepted for teams that have players with other commitments. Registration forms available at the YMCA or at www.sheboygancountyymca.org. Forms can be turned in at the Sheboygan or Sheboygan Falls YMCAs. Registration is limited; early registration is recommended.

SOFTBALL

Jan. 18, 19

What: Lakeland College softball camps

When: Dates vary by age:

? Girls in grades 8-12: Jan. 18

Where: Lakeland College

Synopsis: Both camps will include three separate sessions focused on pitching/catching, defense and offense. The camps will take place outside at the Muskie softball field if weather permits, or inside the Wehr Center. The high school camp is intense, and designed to prepare players for competitive high school and college softball. The goal is to help players become more confident and aggressive, improving all aspects of their game. The middle school camp will cater to both beginners and experienced softball players. The overall focus is to develop and encourage fundamental skills and a love for the game. Pitchers are asked to provide their own catcher for the pitching and catching camp.

Cost: $50 for one session, $90 for two sessions or $120 for all three sessions. Campers will get a t-shirt as well as pizza for lunch.

WRESTLING

What: Instructional wrestling program for grades K-8

Synopsis: The program introduces young kids to wrestling. All wrestlers in kindergarten through eighth grade are welcome, and no prior experience is required or expected. Basic wrestling skills and conditioning drills and games will be taught.
