Phantoms handled Mosinee, host Xavier on Friday

As sure as the leaves fall and the costumes come out at Halloween, West De Pere High School's football program has a solid track record of winning at the start of the WIAA playoffs the latter part of October.

The Phantoms extended their streak of prevailing in the first round to six years - and nine times in the last 10 seasons - by disposing of visiting Mosinee 24-6 on Friday night.

Senior standout Chandler Diekvoss scored three touchdowns, including a 2-yard run at the end of a lengthy game-opening drive that put West De Pere ahead to stay at 7-0 in the Division 3 opening-round matchup. ...
