Local football players receive all-conference honors

Four Door County players were chosen first-team all-conference in the Olympian/Packerland large division for the 2013 high school football season.

Southern Door's Mitchell Gerend was a unanimous selection at receiver, teammates Keegan Kroening and Cal McCarty were recognized as the league's best kicker and punter, and Sturgeon Bay's Joey Sheehy was selected at linebacker.

The sophomore Gerend led the conference with 37 receptions for 539 yards. Kroening made a league-best four field goals, McCarty averaged 34.3 yards per punt, and Sheehy ranked third in tackles with 64. ...
