As state legislators ramp up efforts to promote workforce development and job creation, one bill would expand a regional program to help "chronically unemployed" workers get jobs in the private-sector.

The proposal, sponsored by Sen. Julie Lassa, D-Stevens Point, and Rep. Scott Krug, R-Rome, would create a transitional jobs program. It would be an expansion of the Transform Milwaukee Jobs program under which the state Department of Children and Families pays employers limited-time wage subsidies to create minimum-wage jobs for low-income, unemployed individuals who meet certain ...
