Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson never will forget the day in 1975 when then-Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips put him in his place.

Maybe it's an overstatement to say it changed the course of Thompson's life, but Phillips nevertheless had a profound impact on Thompson, then an undrafted rookie linebacker trying to make his mark in the NFL.
