Baldwin, Johnson split on workplace discrimination bill

A bill co-sponsored by Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin banning workplace discrimination against gays appears headed for passage by the Senate this week.

It would be the first time such a measure has come up for a vote in the Senate since 1996, even though it has been introduced every Congress since then.

Baldwin, the first openly gay senator in U.S. history, hailed the legislative progress as a watershed in a larger battle for equal rights. ...
