The Green Bay Packers promoted quarterback Scott Tolzien from the practice squad on Wednesday, filling out their 53-man roster.
To replace Tolzien, the Packers signed wide receiver Alex Gillett to the practice squad.
Tolzien, a former University of Wisconsin quarterback, was signed to the practice squad Sept. 2. He spent 2011 and 2012 with the San Francisco 49ers, but did not appear in a game. The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2011 by the San Diego Chargers.
Gillett is a 6-1, 214-pound rookie out of Eastern Michigan. He was originally signed by the Packers on May 22 and was cut on Aug. 26.
On Tuesday, the Packers placed tight end Jermichael Finley and linebacker Sam Barrington on the injured reserve, and added tackle Derek Sherrod to the 53-man roster.
