EDITOR: Empty Bowls a Success! On Oct. 19, Portage County Hunger and Poverty Partnership sponsored the 11th annual Empty Bowls event. The event was very successful, raising more than $18,000 for hunger and poverty prevention in Portage County.

There are many people who made this possible. Our gold sponsors: Delta Dental; Sentry Insurance; Noel Group; Skyward; Thrivent Financial for Lutherans; Ministry Health Care; Rockman's Catering; Clay Corner Studio; Jen Selwyn; and Joe Clark. Our silver sponsors: Lands End; Digi Copy; Wisconsin Public Service; Welling Kitchen and Bath; Target; Travel Guard; Coca-Cola; Saint Bronislava Parish; Woodlands Church; Sysco; Wysocki's; Amy Kinsman; and the Charles Fernandez Center. We'd like to thank our media sponsors, including Stevens Point Journal Media, and our friends at Pioneer Bank; McDill Auto Wrecking; Elk Street Studio; H.O. Wolding; Dr. Steven Faber, DDS; Revelation Builders; and Trig's.

Thank you to the restaurants that donated the delicious soups; the many parishes that donated cookies; the more than 100 community volunteers who worked that day; the businesses that donated raffle prizes; and to our entertainment, Uptown. A huge thank you to the 850 people who came on the day of the event.

This is a true community event and none of this would be possible without everyone's help. Thank you for your generosity.

If you would like to be a sponsor or get involved, go the Empty Bowls website at www.emptybowlsportageco.com.
