Letter: Say no to Business Highway 51 project

Roundabouts will keep senior citizens away, could slow down ambulances

EDITOR: I have been listening to the news and reading open letters and I finally decided to add my two cents.

Say no to the Business Highway 51 project. I agree with Martin Wacker, who in a recent letter said the city should repair and replace a smooth-flowing road. The bikers do use the sidewalks as there are not a lot of walkers. I sat out there one day and saw in an hour one bike and two walkers.

As for roundabouts, they are not necessary or even safe. Some communities have even considered removing them because of accidents. I would like to know how many seniors will even use this road if they add these! Why upset homes and businesses out there - and believe me, this project will cause a loss of businesses. Very sad indeed.

We need to find ways to save tax dollars, not spend them this way. Just a thought: What about in an emergency? A squad car, fire truck or ambulance would have to slow down taking the roundabouts (without an accident of course), potentially delaying them from responding.
