• On Veterans Day, Monday, restaurants and service businesses will give back to those who gave to their country. Many offer freebies or discounts to both veterans and active duty personnel.

Unless specified, all deals are valid Monday only. Restaurant offers are dine-in, and many do not include beverage, dessert or tip.

With the exception of Golden Corral, all require proof of service.

Applebee’s website, as an example, lists nine types of documents or items it accepts as proof: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, current leave and earnings statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform, wearing uniform, DD214, citation or commendation.

A sampling of deals and freebies:

• Applebee’s: Free entree from special menu.

• B.J. Clancy’s: Choice of entree at half price, excluding beverage, dessert or tip.

• Buca di Beppo: Free dish of pasta from special menu.

• Chili’s: Free meal from special menu.

• Cinder’s Charcoal Grill: Free steak sandwiches.

• Denny’s: Free all-you-can-eat pancakes from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Fantastic Sams: Free haircuts to active, reserve or retired military personnel.

• Golden Corral: Free buffet meal and beverage from 4 to 9 p.m. No ID required.

• Great Clips: Free haircut, or a card good for a future haircut before Dec. 31.

• J.C. Penney: 20 percent off in-store discount. Print coupon from jcp.com/military and present it with proof of service.

• Marcus Theatres, Appleton East Cinema location: At 2:35 or 7 p.m., free admission to “Honor Flight: One Last Mission.”

• Neville Museum, Green Bay: Free admission for military and immediate family members.

• Olive Garden: Free meal from special menu. Families get 10 percent off.

• Outback Steakhouse: Free Bloomin’ Onion and beverage.

• Red Lobster: Free appetizer.

• Red Ox: Free entree from lunch menu (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) or early-bird dinner menu (3 to 9 p.m.). Required: Must make reservation by Sunday night at 920-830-4121. Excludes tax, tip and beverage.

• Red Robin: Free tavern double burger and fries.

• Richmond Street Car Wash: Free car washes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Sport Clips Haircuts: Shop donates $1 per haircut Monday to “Help A Hero” scholarships for veterans

• Stevi B’s: Veterans and military get year-round $3.99 buffet/beverage deal

• Stone Cellar Brewpub: One free beer to every veteran

• Texas Roadhouse: Free lunch from from special menu 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• TGI Fridays: Free lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
