Andy Longtine was ready to claim glory for his country - and his crumb catcher.

The 36-year-old Plover man was preparing to compete in the 2013 World Beard and Mustache Championships in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany, when a competitor from Hungary told him that Wolfgang Schneider from Germany - the four-time world champion in the natural mustache category - was likely to win the competition yet again.

But Longtine's handlebarred mustachio impressed the Hungarian so much that he figured the enterprise analyst for Travel Guard insurance was a lock for second place. ...
