Neenah sailor aboard aircraft carrier in Philippines

A Neenah native is aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier, which arrived off the eastern coast of the Philippines Thursday to aid with the massive relief efforts following last week's typhoon.

Much of the country has been without food and water for six days and the nuclear aircraft carrier will provide aid with its 5,500 sailors and 21 helicopters. Typhoon Haiyan hit the region last Friday.

USS George Washington will serve as a floating staging area for U.S. and other helicopters to resupply and refuel before lifting loads to Tacloban Airport, said Lt. Cmdr. James Stockman, ...
