With the recent concert announcements of Chicago and the Band Perry, the Fox Valley will be welcoming something old and something new to their stages in 2014.

Classic rockers Chicago will perform May 1 at Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton, while the platinum-selling Band Perry hits Ashwaubenon's Resch Center Feb. 27. It's yet another legacy act for the PAC, which has hosted performers such as Rick Springfield, Del McCoury and Bill Cosby since 2011. For the Resch Center, it's another strong country act that follows such stars as Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood and Eric Church since 2012.

Chicago, known for hits including "You're the Inspiration," "Call on Me," "25 or 6 to 4," is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums over six decades. Over their 40-plus years as a band, Chicago has won a Grammy Award and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while the band's record sales have topped the $100 million mark.

The Band Perry, who burst into the mainstream music scene with 2010's "If I Die Young," is one of country music's hottest new acts. In just three years, the Band Perry became nationwide headliners, earned a handful of CMAs and went platinum with their debut eponymous album. The single "If I Die Young" also went quadruple platinum.

However, entertainment fans don't have to wait until the New Year to enjoy high-profile acts at these two venues. There are numerous shows ending 2013 in style at the PAC, including "Flashdance: The Musical" (through Sunday), composer and pianist Jim Brickman (Nov. 22) and pianist and vocalist Lorie Line (Dec. 16). Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or the PAC box office at 920-730-3760.

The Resch Center is celebrating its final months of 2013 with neo-folk artists the Avett Brothers (Nov. 21), country mainstay Martina McBride (Dec. 19) and the Harlem Globetrotters (Dec. 30). Tickets are available through Ticket Star at ticketstaronline.com or 800-895-0071. For more local and national concerts, visit my Rock On blog and the Wisconsin Concert Guide at foxcitieshub.com.
