Following are the highlights from Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy’s post-practice press conference on Thursday:

Practice and injury report

Full participation: LB Clay Matthews (thumb).

Limited participation: C Evan Dietrich-Smith (knee), LB Andy Mulumba (ankle), DT Ryan Pickett (knee).

Did not participate: T Don Barclay (knee), CB Casey Hayward (hamstring), DT Johnny Jolly (groin), LB Mike Neal (abdomen), LB Nick Perry (foot and ankle), QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone).

More from McCarthy

Was it discouraging that tackle Don Barclay couldn’t practice today?

Don’s going through the rehab part of it. Didn’t feel as good today as we hoped. I’m giving him a full week to give it a go.

What about cornerback Casey Hayward and linebacker Nick Perry?

Hayward is (out) multiple weeks and Perry will be challenged to go this week.

Have you seen a hamstring issue like Hayward’s?

Casey was looking forward to a big year. We saw how he played as rookie and history says second year is a big jump. To lose the whole year I know is frustrating for him.

How common of an opponent are the New York Giants?

We’ve played them every year (for the last four years), so I would not classify them as an uncommon opponent.

Their defense has been playing better.

It starts up front. They create pressure with a four-man rush. (Quarterback) Scott (Tolzien) needs to focus on running our offense. Playing against a young quarterback, they’ll probably create some challenges for us.

What’s the difference with Giants quarterback Eli Manning having a tough year?

I don’t think like that. There’s more information than you can possibly think about using in one week. You have to trust the video. Everyone knows he’s accomplished, won two Super Bowls. He’s aggressive. Doesn’t take sacks. Every game is different in this league. This is an experienced football team, they've won a lot of games together, they’re well coached.

What difference will it make for linebacker Clay Matthews to use a smaller cast?

If he plays with this cast compared to last week, it will definitely help him.
