Terrorist expert, West alum to speak at fundraiser

A Wausau West High School graduate who has become an expert on terrorism will speak at a district fundraising event on Monday.

Anne Speckhard, a 1976 graduate of West and author of "Talking to Terrorists," also will meet with Wausau West student in their psychology classes Monday morning.

She'll be the keynote speaker at the Wausau School Foundation's Reach for the Stars signature event, to be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the City Grill, 203 Jefferson St. The Wausau School Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises money to help augment the education in district classrooms. Reach for the Stars is a program that funds specific special educational projects proposed by teachers.

Speckhard is an adjunct associate professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical School in Washington D.C. She has been working in the field of post traumatic stress disorder since the 1980s, is a government consultant and lectures to security experts worldwide.
