As temperatures cool and daylight dwindles, police are reminding drivers to prepare for the inevitable onslaught of ice, snow and limited visibility that make winter driving treacherous.

Each month, the Wisconsin State Patrol chooses one law to highlight in an effort to increase awareness of local regulations. The windshield law is the most recent "law of the month" troopers are focusing on. In Wisconsin, a vehicle's windshield, side wings, and side and rear windows must be kept clear at all times. Violating this law can be costly and results in a $175.30 citation.
