Have you met our 20 Under Forty? They are an impressive bunch. We received nearly 80 nominations from the community, and getting our list down to 20 honorees was a challenge for the panel of judges who determined them.
You can see the results for yourself at our website at www.wausaudailyherald.com/20under40. There are some impressive ones. Just a few:
? Timothy Buchholz, 30, of Wausau heads the music department at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County. He has "quickly made a significant impact on the region's music scene and has provided new and unique opportunities for musical performers of all ages and audiences throughout the area," wrote his nominator, UWMC Dean Keith Montgomery.
? As executive director of Wausau Events Inc., Kari Rasmussen, 36, of Wausau makes possible Wausau's Concerts on the Square, Chalkfest, Winterfest and the Bull Falls Blues Fest - to name just a few. As leader of the organization, Rasmussen has been integral in making the events that tie the community together.
? Bob Lamovec, 32, of Wausau is president of Office Enterprises Inc., and deeply involved in the community, serving on multiple nonprofit boards and helping make the community a better place.
? Methusalah "Lah" Thao, 32, of Wausau is not just the lead teacher at the Enrich Excel Achieve Learning Academy. He's not just a board member at the United Way of Marathon County or a member of the Wausau Citizens Advisory Committee for community development block grants. He also owns and operates a business, Rising Son Mixed Martial Arts.
In short, 20 Under Forty has been a great way to learn more about some people who are making a difference here. It doesn't even feel right, in a lot of these cases, to call them the "next generation" of leaders. They're community leaders today, right now.
We want to thank the sponsors who helped make 20 Under Forty possible - Peoples State Bank, the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce, Wipfli, Ruder Ware, Northcentral Technical College, Rasmussen College, Wisconsin Public Service Corp. and Greenheck Fan Corp.
In partnership with the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce, we're holding a lunch event today for all our honorees. For those who didn't get their tickets in time, we'll have live video of the awards on our website beginning at 12:10 p.m. Join us! And then look for the special section about all our honorees with Saturday's and Sunday's print editions.
