Monday's special Liberty Grove town meeting was delayed about 20 minutes while the overflow crowd was signed in.
Voters in the town of Liberty Grove on Monday rejected a proposal to exceed state-imposed limits and raise the property tax levy by $200,000, or 12.7 percent.
The 98-77 vote came after a dozen people spoke, most of them opposed to the levy limit override that the Town Board said was needed to maintain services at current levels. The 6 p.m. meeting started about 20 minutes late because of the process of registering the nearly 200 people who were eligible to vote.
