More from McCarthy
♦ Actually had a good practice (on Wednesday). Injury report is too long. We haven't gone to our winter schedule yet, but we're starting to lean that way.
♦ Shields and Barclay are still in rehab phase.
♦ Emphasis on how you play at home, on the road, those are big-picture topics. Our emphasis is on beating a division opponent coming in here. This is the game of football. Focus on crossing white lines and do what we need to do to win game.
♦ (Injured wide receiver) Randall Cobb, I haven't gotten an update on him. He's getting around a lot better. I see him in weight room. He's getting healthy.
♦ Rodgers' status is a medical decision. Talking about healing of a bone. When Dr. (Patrick) McKenzie and Rodgers talk about playing, we'll talk about it. That did not happen today.
♦ Area affected most by injuries is special teams. It's a challenge, but that's part of the landscape in any special teams room in league. That's why you train all 61 players.
♦ We've had people dare us to throw the football and we've had big games in those opportunities, big-time results for the offense.
♦ (Quarterback Scott) Tolzien, completion percentage-wise, I'm happy with how he has thrown the football. Interceptions are a big issue. Those decision interceptions are ones you have to knock out. You're going to have competitive interceptions. I feel good about where he is.
♦ I don't think (rookie running back Eddie) Lacy has hit the wall. If anything, I'd like to get all three of those backs involved because they've earned it. (James) Starks has earned it. The guy I feel I have neglected is (rookie Johnathan) Franklin. Feel good about all three of them carrying ball. The Giants game we were under our number of normal plays, in the 50s instead of around 70.
♦ Sense of urgency? Hell, yeah. A lot goes into this game. We know where we are. I'm not into the playoff picture. It's a waste of time. We have more to give and we all need to give it.
♦ (Wide receiver) Jordy Nelson is an outstanding football player, always extremely professional. What I admire is his leadership. He's exerting himself more. Great representative of what a player is supposed to be like and going about his business.
♦ Good to see (rookie offensive lineman J.C.) Tretter out there (at practice). He did individual work, will be in pads tomorrow. Sat down and laid out a 3-week plan.
♦ We have a sense of urgency to clean our own house, regardless of who Vikings' quarterback is.
