Rodgers almost certainly won't play Thursday, McCarthy says

It's unlikely Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play Thursday at Detroit, coach Mike McCarthy reiterated Tuesday despite the quarterback’s participation in practice.

Rodgers went through individual drills and was listed as a limited participant for the first time since breaking his collarbone against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 4.

“It does not look like Aaron is going make it,” McCarthy said at his news conference on Tuesday afternoon. “He had a good day. … He feels good, but I don’t think he’s going to make it this week.”

When asked whether Rodgers was still “slim to none” on availability for Thursday’s game as stated Monday, McCarthy said, “Closer to none.”

McCarthy said Matt Flynn took the starter reps, but he declined to name a starter, saying that both Flynn and Scott Tolzien needed to be ready based on the fact that the starting quarterback hasn’t finished a game recently.

McCarthy said he felt better about the quarterback situation this week with both preparing to play.

McCarthy also said he expects cornerback Sam Shields and defensive lineman Johnny Jolly to play at Detroit, but that nothing would be determined before Wednesday’s practice. Both sat out Sunday’s game against Minnesota. He put tackle Don Barclay, who also missed the Minnesota game, in that category. All three practiced Tuesday.

Practice and injury report

Did not practice: TE Brandon Bostick (concussion), RB Johnathan Franklin (concussion), LB Jamari Lattimore (quadriceps), DE C.J. Wilson (ankle).
