Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy wasn’t bluffing when he said quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ chances of playing against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day were “slim to none.”

McCarthy named Matt Flynn his starting quarterback during his post-practice news conference on Wednesday. Rodgers will miss his fourth consecutive game because of a broken left collarbone.

Rodgers was listed as a limited participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, but was back to observing during the final run-through before Detroit during the portion available to the media.

Flynn’s last start for the Packers was a monumental one. He set a team record for single-game passing with a 480-yard, six-touchdown performance in a 45-41 win over Detroit at the end of the 2011 season.

Flynn relieved Scott Tolzien midway through the third quarter of in Sunday’s 26-26 tie with the Minnesota Vikings, completing 21 of 36 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown.

“Matt Flynn will be the starter tomorrow,” McCarthy said. “He’s taken all the starter reps this week and he’s ready to go.”

Flynn will be the Packers’ fourth starting quarterback this season, which marks the first time since at least 1959 that Green Bay has started that many different quarterbacks in a single season.
