Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at his press conference this morning that he doesn’t know yet whether Aaron Rodgers can play next week against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I know he wasn’t ready after Wednesday’s practice,” said McCarthy, whose team was embarrassed 40-10 by the Detroit Lions on Thursday.

Here are some of McCarthy's comments from his press conference:

*We're in the hole, that's not where you want to be. Our goal is to get back to .500. I would think we'll have to win out to have a chance at the playoffs.

*There's not a man in this league as a coach that hasn't had his ass beat. We'll take that hard lesson, swallow, be accountable for it.

*It was good to get tackle Derek Sherrod in the game. We're going to put the best ones out there. Not going to make change for sake of change.

*I thought T.J. Lang handled playing center well from what I saw. We'll make it work if Evan Dietrich Smith is out an extended time.

*I have no medical updates on Dietrich-Smith. It's tough when you lose your center. We've been challenged with people going in and out.

*We need to stay focused on football, the fundamentals. 20-plus missed tackles, not being able to drop back and throw ball.

*During game, I definitely felt Lions captured the line of scrimmage. The way they called game, it was ‘on’ right at the line of scrimmage.

*I didn't think energy was an issue. I thought we practiced team the right way.

*Very impressed with the way Detroit played. We got caught. We got drilled.

*Accountability is very high on this team. We all know we need to do a lot better.

*Game was thoroughly won by Lions. One of toughest losses I've ever been part of.
