Former Chicago Bears running back Kahlil Bell tweeted today that hes the newest member of the Packers.

So greatful for this opportunity to be apart of the Green Bay Packers, Bell said in the tweet. Its been a long year but kept the faith n kept fighting! Im a Packer!!

The Packers had only two halfbacks (Eddie Lacy and James Starks) and one fullback (John Kuhn) on their roster last week after they placed rookie Johnathan Franklin on injured reserve because of a concussion.

The NFL hasnt put out its transaction wire for the day, so its unclear what roster move the Packers have made or will make to clear a spot for Bell. One possibility is that theyll place center Evan Dietrich-Smith on injured reserve after he aggravated a knee injury last week at Detroit.

They also could release inside linebacker Victor Aiyewa and try to re-sign him to their practice squad. They put Franklin on IR to make room for promoting Aiyewa from the practice squad last week.

Bell was out of football after the New York Jets cut him in training camp. The former UCLA running back has played three years in the NFL, all with the Bears, and averaged 4.3 yards on 148 carries.
