Letter: Your gift to the United Way can help address community needs

Your United Way gift will help community

EDITOR: As chairman of the 2013 United Way Campaign, I've learned a lot about the issues in our community. I've heard from our partner programs that work directly with individuals and families struggling to make ends meet and from others focusing efforts on prevention and addressing the root cause of problems.

I've learned that creating lasting changes in the lives of the people we serve is not as simple as it would seem. But our partner programs are making good things happen every day. They ensure that kids get a good start in life, that families have food and shelter, that seniors are able to live independently in their homes and so much more.

Requests for United Way funding in 2014 exceed the projected dollars available by 30 percent. That's a huge gap to fill. Our United Way partner programs continue to meet the needs here in Marathon County, but they need your help.

In these uncertain economic times, it's hard to ask people to give more and we are very grateful for every gift. If you've already made your United Way gift this fall, thank you. If you haven't yet given, I would ask you to consider a gift of any amount - even $5 can make an impact.

That's the beauty of a gift to United Way: When all those small gifts are combined, they create big change in our community.

Giving is easy. Here's how you can help create lasting change in the lives of thousands of people right here in Marathon County:

? Give through your workplace campaign.

? Mail a check to United Way of Marathon County, 705 S. 24th Ave, Ste. 400B, Wausau, WI 54401

? Give online at www.unitedwaymc.org. Click on the blue "Give" button on our homepage.

Thank you for your support.

Keith Fierek,

2013 United Way Campaign Chairman,

Wausau
