Letter: Retired business executives, we need you to run for public office

We need good people to run for office

EDITOR: In Marathon County, the County Board and Wausau City Council lack transparency as they create debt. The citizens are never given a choice via a referendum which would give elected officials authorization. Instead, the officials spend and tax as they choose.

We must have term limits and limit their ability to increase their power. Marathon County has the resources. It is home to many successful retired business executives who have faced problems and solved them.

Marathon County citizens, we need your support to regain our freedom to choose. Our rights once again have the elected and unelected serve for the benefit of all the people. Today the unelected and elected rule. The citizens are now the servants.

I urge retired executives to unite. Discuss running for public office for the County Board or the City Council. Our citizens now have no voice. We must eliminate control by special interest groups. Professional leadership skills are the key.

As individuals you can once again feel the satisfaction of making a difference. The reason to serve is obvious. We need volunteers, much like our young men and women now serving in our Armed Forces. Now would be a good time to serve your community.

You know the mission. The citizens have been disrespected. As one American to another, the people need what people of character can do.

Vern O. Plantiko,

Wausau
