McMillian released after fizzling in second year

Going into this season, Jerron McMillian appeared to have a decent shot at winning a starting job at safety for the Green Bay Packers.

But by early in the season, the second-year pro had dropped to the bottom of the depth chart, and Tuesday the Packers cut ties with the fourth-round pick from the 2012 draft.

The Packers released McMillian to make room on their roster for halfback Kahlil Bell. McMillian was expendable because he was the Packers' No. 5 safety after falling behind undrafted rookie Chris Banjo and second-year pro Sean Richardson, who returned recently from neck surgery in January. ...
