Following are the highlights of coach Mike McCarthy's press conference this afternoon:
(Update on Rodgers) He has not been cleared yet from the medical staff. Heíll practice tomorrow in a limited fashion and we havenít ruled him out for game.
Aaron wants to play but itís medical situation. He understands where he is in the process, he feels good, and weíre going to see what he can do tomorrow.
(What have you been doing the last few days?) Weíre focused beating on the Atlanta Falcons. Graded Minnesota and Detroit games and self scouted. Players here today, strength and conditioning this morning, started game planning with them in the afternoon.
(Why McMillian cut?) Itís tough. Any time bring in young player you have expectations, but felt we needed to do this for our roster. His performance wasnít quite what we needed it to be. You donít want to give up on a young guy and I wish him well.
(What did you like about Bell?) Good fit for special teams and be backup in running back group.
(Would you sit Rodgers if you donít win this week?) Thatís external, there have been no internal conversations about shutting him down. He wants to play and will play when healthy.
(Does practice help dictate whether heís healthy?) Itís part of the rehab, the next level.
(How worn down were players after last week?) We knew going into it, with the early bye and the number of injuries it was a challenge. This time off I feel will help us.
(Sherrod getting a chance this week?) Good to get him in the game last week. But as far as lining up, Barclay feels good, Dietrich-Smith feels good, so hoping to get back to the line of a few weeks ago.
(Who will take first-team reps at QB Wednesday?) Matt Flynn.
(You made priority of injuries from last year, whatís going on there?) Iím no miracle worker and nobody is, nobody has a handle on why all the injuries across the league. Thereís a lot of opinions, medical staff is up on the research. The organization has phenomenal resources, and everything we can do to help the health of the players from training and resource standpoint, thatís what weíll do. Everything is looked at, the pattern of injuries, the timing. Overtraining isnít an issue. Thereís a lot of opinions out there.
(Why Flynn over Tolzien?) We think Mattís further along with game experience and more comfortable in the system. Scottís worked extremely hard. This will be Mattís first week of getting a full weekís of reps. Then how do you balance that with Aaron possibly playing, balance we have to get.
(Cobb ready?) He hasnít been cleared yet but looks good and feels good.
(EDSís knee?) Said he feels good after the weekend, hope he can practice tomorrow.
(Think it would be this hard without Rodgers?) Disappointed, frustrated, whatever word, thatís how I feel. I understand the importance of Aaron to the team as QB and to make everyone around him better. We havenít handled the challenges our opponents have put in front of us. Thatís where we have to stay the course. Atlanta is going to challenge us the same way and I think weíll be better prepared. We have to have a very good plan and play fundamental football, and Iím confident weíll win the game.
(What happened to run defense?) Iím not going to make excuses. The Detroit report card, the offense had zero positives, all negatives, the defense had four turnovers and the rest negatives. Biggest thing was we had 20 missed tackles.
(Plan personnel changes this week?) Weíre staying true to who we are. We studied the film, correct what weíve done, get some people healthier, more competition for playing time in certain packages. But Iím not getting into specifics, thatís why you play.
