Algoma girls basketball: Wolves pound Vikings to open title defense

The defending Division 4 state champion Algoma girls basketball team picked up where it left off on Dec. 3, lighting up its home court in a 67-35 season-opening victory over Gibraltar.

The Wolves made six three-pointers and outscored Gibraltar, 30-9, in the second quarter to break open a close game.

Kennedy Blahnik scored 13 points, Anna Dier 12 and Meg Ryan 11 for the Wolves, who have won or shared the past three conference titles and were Division 4 state champions last season.

Lauren Kita made three 3-pointers and led Gibraltar with 11 points.
