RDA refuses to kill Walmart proposal

The Redevelopment Authority refused to kill a proposal by Walmart to build a supercenter on North Broadway, but that doesn't mean the store is closer to being built.

"The rezoning is a city decision. Period. Rezoning is what we do," Mayor Jim Schmitt said after the 4-3 RDA vote, indicating the project has little chance of winning city approval.

Schmitt opposes the plan, and Alderman Joe Moore, an authority member, said 70 percent of city council members do as well. ...
