Hanson convicted in 1998 Oconto County murder

A 53-year-old man was convicted Tuesday of the 1998 murder of a 19-year-old Green Bay man in Oconto County, in what was considered a cold case for about 15 years.

A 10-woman, two-man jury deliberated about 4 hours Tuesday before finding Peter Hanson guilty of killing Chad McLean. Hanson faces up to life in prison and will be sentenced next week.

Several of McLean's family members pumped their fists at the verdict. His mother, Carol Neilson, put her down briefly and cried. The family declined to comment, but special prosecutor Vince Biskupic said that while the state was pleased, more work was ...
