By all appearances, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made a step forward this week in his recovery from a broken left collarbone.
Rodgers seems to have tolerated his work in practice on Wednesday much better than last week, because he was in pads on Thursday and doing all the individual and group drills during the portion of practice open to reporters. He appeared to be moving well and throwing the ball with ease and good velocity.
Last week, Rodgers had pain his collarbone and shoulder doing rudimentary work on Wednesday, so he cut back on what he did the rest of the week. His work on Wednesday this week included a few snaps in team drills.
But whether Rodgers has taken a big enough step to be cleared to play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys after missing the past five-plus games is another matter. Being free of pain doesnít necessarily mean his collarbone has mended enough to minimize the risk of him re-breaking it. Rodgers presumably has or will have to undergo a CT scan to satisfy the teamís medical staff that heís healed enough to be cleared to play.
Matt Flynn took the first reps in most of the drills, which is the starter's role.
Rodgers was scheduled to talk to reporters after practice on Thursday, when he likely would an update on whether he has much chance of playing this week.
The Packersí list of players who didnít practice was the same Thursday as Wednesday: running back Eddie Lacy (ankle), linebacker Jamari Lattimore (knee), linebacker Brad Jones (ankle), linebacker Mike Neal (abdomen) and defensive end C.J. Wilson (ankle).
